In preparation for our coming, we've been reading about the history of the current political situation and conflict here. We've definitely been challenged by what we've read, seen, and heard about the people here, and would invite you to learn more about the people in this very tense part of the Middle East:Elias Chacour - "Blood Brothers" (easy read, very powerful); Sandy Tolan - "The Lemon Tree" (outstanding story!); Alan Dowty- "Israel/Palestine" (dense, but informative); Gary Burge - "Whose Land? Whose Promise?" (highly recommended)

315 days later...

Well, our year in Jerusalem has drawn to a close. We leave tonight around midnight for the airport to begin the long journy back to the States. Before heading back to Madison, however, we're going to spend some time with our families. For those of you who are interested, here's our next couple weeks in outline:
June 23: Tel Aviv > Zurich > Chicago > Seattle
June 24-27: with Jessica's family in Bellingham, WA
June 27-July 2: with Tim's family in Portland, OR
July 2: Seattle > Madison

This year has been a very rich experience for us. We've learned alot about ourselves, the Middle East, and our world. We've been happy to share all of this with you on our blog over the year; thanks for your many comments. I hope the blog has been as interesting for you to read as it was for me to write. For those of you in Madison, we'll see you soon!

hey jessica! wow time flies. obviously my comment can't convey the big deal of you completing a year in jerusalem. or me getting engaged this past feb 6th. i was wondering where you two are ending up and if i could get an address at some point to invite you to my wedding- it's on dec 29th (in mn though which will be a pain to drive to) but want to include you all the same. saying hello and hope you have a nice transition back to states/family. alissa ritchie

hook me up with a mailing address. i have a postcard i think you two will like. i went to a face 2 face exhibit here. the french photographer who did the huge faces on the walls did a gig here. some of his stuff is also hung around amsterdam (with images of palestine faces etc. ) cool junk. good memories with you.
